People Meet Four very different sets of people (the unlikeliest of friends) are thrown together by the circumstances of the Virus. The common meeting point will be The Mall, where Jack already lives on his own, sleeping in the electrical shop that his father owned. Salene, Cloe, Patsy, Paul (and Bob the dog). Salene, being the eldest, plays mother to the others who are still very young. Patsy & Paul are sister & brother; Paul is deaf. Cloe is apt to wander off and play in the streets, which is a very dangerous thing to do. The story begins with one such occasion, when she is snatched from certain capture by the Locos by.... Amber & Dal are running away from the city, hoping to find a farm where they can set up home and grow their own food. (In Season 2, Dal does become something of a farmer). Amber spots Cloe in peril. She's more interested in a stray cat in the middle of the street, than staying safe from the Locusts. As the wail of the infamous Locos' Police Car siren grows louder by the second, Amber dashes out from cover to rescue her. Cloe takes Amber and Dal back to where her friends Salene, Patsy and Paul are playing. They are intruded on and threatened by.... Lex, Ryan & Zandra. Zandra is quite a refined young lady, very conscious of fashion and style. How she became attached to Lex and Ryan is anyone's guess. Amber's description of Lex is a "moronic thug". He knows only how to please himself and bullies others to get it. He met Ryan at bootcamp. Ryan is rather "slow" and takes his thoughts and opinions from Lex, but he is not nearly so cruel and hard. As the season progresses, Ryan develops his own personality. Lex, Ryan and Zandra are on the run from the Locos (Locusts: an evil tribe led by Zoot). By chance they come across Amber and Salene, and demand their food. But the Locos catch up with Lex, and then a rival tribe, the Demon Dogz, clashes with the Locos. Amber leads her group out of trouble, and they find the Mall by chance. Lex sits out the fight then tracks Amber's group down, and causes trouble again. Jack, the only resident in the Mall, and so far unseen, allows Amber and the youngsters to pass, but then lowers the grille, one in front of Lex, and one behind him, trapping Lex and his two companions. Jack introduces himself to Amber and Salene and shows them around the Mall. They let Lex out when the Mall seems under threat from an unknown intruder, who turns out to be Bray... Bray and Trudy. These are what you might call respectable, from good families and schools. Trudy is heavily pregnant by Martin (Zoot) whom we learn later is Bray's brother. They have fled from their neighborhood (just in time before the Roosters Tribe moved in) and sought a place of refuge in sector 10 of the city. Bray finds the Mall shortly after the others have set up there, then brings in Trudy. Lex hates Bray and Trudy from day 1, possibly seeing Bray as a rival to power. An incident that occurs whilst Lex, Ryan & Zandra are being pursued by the Locos will have consequences for Lex at the Tribal Gathering in Ep.29. Lex wanted to join the Locos and had arranged to meet with Zoot, together with Ryan and Zandra, and a fourth, Glen. Glen also had feelings for Zandra, so he was a potential rival to Lex. Lex's negotiations with Zoot went wrong, and the four ran for their lives. Glen is in the rear when they come to a wall. A stack of wooden palettes already in place makes scaling it easy, but Lex kicks it over as Glen is about to follow. This serves two purposes, Zoot ends the chase, and Glen will no longer be around Zandra.
