The election
for Leader

The topic of order and discipline in the Mall comes up, and Lex insists they need a strong leader who can enforce it, someone like him. Amber wants a choice of leader, but Bray isn't interested in the job. Amber is furious that Bray will do nothing to stop Lex doing as he pleases.

Bray unexpectedly suggests that she herself would make an ideal leader, and there should be an election to decide: Amber vs Lex.

Amber puts the election idea to Lex, declaring herself, not Bray, as the alternative candidate. He scorns the idea and refuses to shake hands.

As might be expected, Lex plays dirty in the run-up to the election - anything just to get votes for himself.

Paul: While Ryan is absent from a Poker game (he's following Patsy to Jack's food stash), Lex rearranges the cards in Paul's favor. Catch: Paul must vote for Lex.

Jack: Ryan discovers Jack's food stash and immediately tells Lex about it. Lex blackmails Jack into voting for him.

Zandra: the promise of a new lipstick in her favorite color.

Amber herself asks people to vote for Lex! Why? She reasons that if she wins, Lex will be on her case until she feels forced to step down. But if he wins, he will soon get bored with it and leave the field clear for someone else.

The voting is done around a table. Jack has a bag containing both black and white marbles - black for Lex and white for Amber, and each person is to take one. Then altogether, they throw the marbles into the middle of a table, to be counted.
The vote goes 8 to 3 for Lex.

The secret of Jack's food stash comes out into the open when Ryan calls for a celebration with creamed rice. (Who’s got creamed rice?)

Lex's first job as leader is to put Jack on trial.
