The Nomads

Trudy and Dal stop for breakfast and look at the map. Dal feels they aren't yet far enough from the City. Trudy burns the map!

Before long they find another tribe and smell their food. They seem friendly enough, playing ball games, with young children among them.

A young girls spots Dal and Trudy and raises the alarm. Trudy sees no reason for delay and strides into their camp, followed more cautiously by Dal.

The Tribe leaders, Troy and Susannah, make the strangers more than welcome. There is plenty of food and it seems like paradise.

Dal asks where everything comes from. Troy explains that they trade with farmers.

Dal demonstrates his skill with mechanical things, and Troy seems pleased with his work.

Dal has never been more happy, until Trudy announces that in her heart she knows she must go back to Brady. She leaves at dawn the next day.

When Dal explains things to Troy and Susannah, they seems strangely angry, but disguise it well. Talking between themselves they vow not to make the same mistake with Dal.
